Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain. Psalm 127:1
As members and friends of Tabernacle Baptist Church we are all called to work and serve together to help build God’s kin-dom. We recognize that our labor is in vain if we fail to discern God’s plan for our church.
Our church governance empowers all covenanting members of our congregation to be a part of this discernment process. Decisions are made by consensus, or when necessary by vote, of the membership. Adoption of the church budget, policy approvals, and election of the church leadership are among the items that require a formal vote. Most other decisions are made by consensus of the congregation following discussion, discernment and prayer.
One of the distinctives of the Baptist Church is the autonomy of the local church. We serve in association with other American Baptist Churches but neither the Executive Minister of the American Baptist Churches of RI or the General Secretary of the American Baptist Churches–USA exercise any authority or control over the local church. They do provide guidance and help us collaborate on our mission outreach.
Our annual meeting will follow worship on Sunday January 26. Your voice is important. Please plan to participate, and please pray for God’s direction in all we do.
